Unprofessional, unsupportive and would not recommend to anyone
Questionable and shady promotion practices
I was starting with my creators' setup and wanted to install DaVinci Resolve, and when I wrote this in the search box of Google, what did I get - DaVinci Resolve (title), and then the meta description with smaller font: "AI Video Editing Software — DaVinci resolve There's a reason people are switching to Descript." Wow, just wow. I didn't look, in my eagerness to start, and clicked, signed up with my email, and when it led me to a PRICING plan, I realised my mistake. I have no idea how Google allows such shady promotional practices, but my advice to Descript is to ditch it immediately, because they will get more hate instead of more money and clients. Here I am now, knowing I will never use software by such a company, because they use their competitor's brand to boost themselves and purpusfully mislead people.
I've been a long time user & here's my take
I'm a long time user and fan of Descript. I've been paying $30/mo for almost 4 years now. Until recently, I was able to efficiently run my channel, making 3-4 videos per week. Now, I can only create 3-4 videos a MONTH without being prompted to "top up." They've divided usage into "AI " and "Media Minutes", hit the max for either one and you're done for the billing period without purchasing a "top up." The media minutes are counted by your uploads, not the end product. And each track counts separately, so a 1 hour raw video with 3 tracks (video and 2 audio) uses 3 hours of media minutes. I can't speak for all small creators but I know I'm looking for a solution that doesn't meter my uploads or grossly markup API costs to make a bigger profit (we know what it costs, you aren't fooling us).
Weird results
I was invited to a podcast and a podcast host used Descript eye tracking feature and some editing. It made me look weird, almost as if I was under the influence and the video was weirdly blurred. My eyes were the worst. I had to ask the host to remove the podcast as I was ashamed of looking like a bad deepfake. Beware if you appear on podcasts. Ask the host for preview before it goes live.

Hindered my progress today as an entrepreneur and was unable to get the conversion I needed. I paid $25 for 400 credits. For a simple 45s video, it 1) did not produce what I asked even though I specified it clearly, 2) At a certain point was running for 15+ minutes doing nothing; I canceled the call and asked what happened, Descript replied that there was a glitch and that it would try again. 3) It tries again, but now all the credits were wasted when it glitched out. Contact CS same day early, no reply yet.

“Extremely unstable and not usable in practice” I used Descript to edit short reels, but even with clips under one minute the app was slow, unstable, and kept crashing. Productive work was impossible. After cancelling the subscription, they continued charging my card. Support does not respond. Overall, the tool was neither technically nor organizationally reliable. Not recommended for professional use.

Very nice, it did exactly what I asked it to do (joining two videos together/gluing them) and I somehow did not find my voice terrible when hearing the final video.

Long standing user is cancelling
I've been a loyal Descript customer for a long time. Since they changed their pricing, my monthly bill has jumped from $30 to $195. I haven't altered my workflow at all. Honestly, this is just too much. I feel taken advantage of. I've recommended Descript to dozens of creators over the years, but now this new pricing forces me to end my relationship with them. They seem just like another tech company that shows complete disregard for its customers. I'm genuinely sad and disappointed about all of this. Descript was a game-changer for creators like me. It was affordable, efficient, and made podcast editing quicker, easier, and much better. Features like voice cloning and the ability to seamlessly edit words—changing "to" to "with," for example—were invaluable. And let’s not forget the incredible Overlord, which handled so many tasks effortlessly. I’ve even compiled a collection of prompts to get the most out of the platform, shaping my workflow to fully utilize its features. But now, I’m told that continuing to use the tools and methods I’ve developed will cost me six times more. That feels incredibly unfair—greedy, even. I can’t help but feel betrayed. It’s disappointing, though I’m not losing sleep over it. I managed just fine without Descript before, and I’ll do so again. It’s just disheartening to see a company make decisions like this.

I’m sorry for always giving bad reviews. I’m not trying to hate this app, but every day it drives me crazy. It’s often unresponsive and slow at doing anything. The AI only helps about ten percent of my work, but it gives me a lot of extra workload because I need to check everything again and again. The results are inconsistent, and usually they turn out bad.
Horrible Service Live Chat to the wall is better
They say they will refund you if you cancel within 48 hours. I couldn't even speak to anyone in 56 hours. They claim to have a live chat service but it's NEVER available! I never even got an email from them when I joined , NOTHING!! I cancelled within 6 hours. Still nothing.
Wonderful tool…but Ai is practically robbery
Descript is a wonderful tool…but the Ai features are disproportionately expensive. There’s no justification for how much the are charging - I’m familiar with LLMs and API costs but there’s zero realistic link. It’s simply a money grab. I am hoping sincerely that the market reacts and produces something of similar quality but with realistic pricing.

Not recommended - Fake 5 star reviews
For shorter videos it's okay, but if you want to edit a podcast or youtube video this takes more time then a normal editing software. The AI is completely insane, and every change you asks it for messes up your edit, and it can't redo it or fix it. It's so frustrating, because the idea is great - but it is not worth 40 euros a month, it's just a complete shit show especially now - before it could edit some of the easier edits, but now it suddenly translated your english audio into german copy, it can't figure out how to remove filler words without removing entire sentences that makes the entire script make sense etc. Now after checking how many 1 star they have and 5 star *(Very few in the middle) I see that they hired a company to post 5 star reviews. That's just zero integrity right there. I checked many of the 5 star reviews and they are all from Ghana and other places with 1 or 2 reviews to larger companies that would easily buy reviews - so that's so sketchy. Not spending 1 USD more on this company.
Poor execution and customer service
update 11/11/25. We had to chase further, finally getting through to a human who understood and issued a refund. Still bear in mind that this isn't a miracle software and it's hard to get a refund. Original review: Whilst the Idea is great, the execution is trash. Full of bugs, and you end up having arguments until red in the face with an AI 'Underlord' repeating yourself again and again, waiting a few minutes between useless answers. It took ages to upload the videos as it's all in the cloud, which is frustrating. Waited overnight for it to upload, and then it told us there was an error. Tried again from a different location on a different day with much faster wifi and it finally uploaded. After messing about with it for a few hours. It got all the speakers wrong, created an echo on the audio towards the end and made a 50min pod into a 2hr 17min pod. We gave up and tried requesting a refund. Only to now be speaking with another AI chatbot saying we had to request a refund within 48hrs. What a load of crafty pre-meditated bullshit. Paid for a year upfront, product doesn't work, and then they throw that at you. Their customers are podcasters with large audiences who will swiftly do in-depth reviews to shut them down. Poor customer service
Poor customer service. i have a yearly membership. I could not figure out how to cancel the account easily, I forgot about it. Then I was charged with no email conformation. i found the charge on my credit card and reached out to support. They declined to refund because I was past the 48 hr refund period. This is ridiculous as credit card statements come well after 48 hrs. Poor customer service
5 Star reviews ARE FAKE
In August 2025 Descript's rating was 1 star. A post on Facebook mentioned this and within 2 months there's a load of 5 star reviews. ..Not one of them is from before August 2025, the time when the real rating of 1 star was displayed! It's easy to see how suddenly Descript is getting 10's of 5 star reviews on dates like the 30th of September and other dates after the 12 of August 2025 ... The REAL 1 star reviews before that are keeping it at 4-star at the moment! A simple data analysis reveals the BIG CHEAT. Way to go, Descript, now we know that you are aware of how dissatisfied your customer base is and that you'd rather cheat on Trustpilot than fix any of Descript's countless issues and try to achieve real 5-star reviews!
This product is full of bugs and frustration
This product was recommended by a friend, but I've had nothing but problems with it from day one. It's full of bugs. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do or what support tells you it will do when you follow their instructions. I tried to apply Studio Sound and it literally deleted my entire video and audio. Thankfully, I could revert to older version, but not before it charged me AI credits. This product was nowhere near ready to launch. I'm frustrated by it daily.
